To restrict vehicular traffic on these roads from 7 am to 7 pm during the second Test beginning December 19, the traffic department has chalked out alternative routes. The road passing in front of the stadium and other links from Chandigarh will be closed and only special-permit vehicles will be allowed to pass through.
Mohali's link with Chandigarh will be blocked at Silvi Park roundabout near PCA and traffic going towards the stadium will be diverted at traffic lights in front of Punjab State Education Board office, Phase VIII and Sector 49-50 roundabout (towards Chandigarh.)
Traffic towards the stadium from the direction of NIPER will be blocked at NIPER chowk. While special passes have been issued to local residents to ply on these roads, Mohali SP Varinder Pal Singh said, "We have issued passes so that people dont face inconvenience. Our teams are distributing passes to people at their doorstep. Signboards giving directions have been put up at various diversion points to guide commuters on suitable alternative routes they can take during match hours."
Meanwhile, parking areas have also been defined from where spectators will enter the stadium. People can park their vehicles inside the sports complex (opposite the stadium), market area of Phase X, park opposite hotel Majestic, near octroi post at Guru Nanak Chowk and parks behind PCA and near PSEB office.
"Parking passes will be given along with entry passes and vehicles can be parked only at the allotted area," said cops.
For parking vehicles during the match, GMADA has also designated certain areas in the city as parking lots that are located in front of PCA and along the dividing roads of sectors 64-49, 63-68, 67-68, 63-64, in front of Silver Oaks hospital, behind city park in Sector 58 and in front of Sector 63 nursery.
